Innovative Online Solution for Leading Global Security Organisation

Background

Employing over 5,000 x-ray screeners in airports worldwide, an industry leading international security company required an online and global solution for x-ray screener training with a real image database rather than artificially engineered and mock up images.

Business Critical Requirements

The solution needed to:

  • Provide state of the art threats to meet the varying requirements of regulators.
  • Comply with regulations and agile adaptation accommodating regulation change.
  • Increase the quality and professional level of screeners by using imagery taken from live operational environments.
  • Deliver advanced administration, data and reporting capabilities for training, compliance and operation managers.

The Eagle7 Solution

Following a fully supported and structured rollout, our dedicated international team led the training and implementation process. During this phase, we conducted an analysis of each country specific requirements.

Through a dedicated web server, Eagle7 is accessible from any authorised device, from any location and at any time and is available in more than 6 languages. Eagle7 provided our client with an up to date image library. This library continues to expand yearly with thousands of new images across luggage, cargo pallets, mail bags and parcels as well as airport supplies to keep the training relevant and engaging.

Advanced administration capabilities allow data to be consumed and analysed by admins at corporate, country and airport levels, to ensure compliance with KPIs and regulatory requirements.

The Results

We helped our client:

  • Achieve greater compliance, efficiency and increased security awareness across all global operations.
  • Review data and report from the relevant segments of the organisation.
  • Perform ongoing reviews to ensure compliance with national and local requirements.
  • Be more responsive to evolving threats and regulations within civil aviation.
  • Access new simulated improvised explosive devices and other prohibited articles which are updated continuously.
  • Save time and resources through computer-based training

Certification of X-ray Screeners on a National Level by a European CAA

Background

Located in one of the EU member states, a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) needed an online solution to help them effectively certify all x-ray screeners that are based in airports throughout the country.

Business Critical Requirements

The solution needed to:

  • Be web-based, yet secured on the highest level as dictated by government standards.
  • Easy to use.
  • Deployable in multiple airports, yet allowing centralized data collection and control
  • Capable of serving tens of thousands of users yearly.

The Eagle7 Solution

The main server of the system was deployed behind the firewall of the CAA to ensure the highest level of security. Employers of x-ray screeners, such as airports and security companies, throughout the country are required to ensure all screeners pass a series of threat detection performance tests before becoming operational.

Using the Eagle7 admin system, the test parameters were defined by the CAA. With the parameters set, our team created a specific government-approved series of simulation-based threat detection tests that serve to certify all x-ray screeners nationwide.

The results of the tests are automatically shared with the CAA and a certificate is issued by the system to candidates who successfully pass the test. As mandated by the law, screeners must undertake recertification every two years. Eagle7 automatically generates a reminder to the local (airport level) admin for each user before the current certification expires to ensure compliance.

The Results

We helped our client:

  • Roll out threat detection performance tests for x-ray screeners nationwide.
  • Improve how they track and manage screener certification.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Automate the recertification notification process.
  • Enable quality assurance and monitoring.

Delivering X-ray Screening Training on Board Cruise Line Ships Around the World

Background

Employing hundreds of security agents on board of dozens of vessels, one of the biggest cruise line companies in the world was looking for a security training solution that could help them ensure the compliance of its security workforce on board.

Business Critical Requirements

The solution needed to:

  • Provide basic theoretical training and recurrent practical threat detection training and testing for each security agent.
  • Deliver centralised monitoring of training data to ensure compliance.
  • Overcome internet connection issues on board the cruise ships.

The Eagle7 Solution

We identified that on the one hand the requirement for centralised monitoring by HQ calls for an online web-based solution, and on the other hand, the lack of stable internet connection on board requires an offline standalone solution.

To overcome these challenges, we designed a bespoke Eagle7 solution for the cruise line company that enables the installation of a standalone version of the system, so security agents could run the program and conduct training even when no internet connection was available. However, once the ship is at a harbour and has an internet connection, the locally installed system automatically synchronises with the HQ main server.

This ensures that all training and performance data accumulated on each workstation on every ship is integrated in a central database that allows admins at HQ level to get an accurate picture of the compliance level of the fleet. It also allows for seamlessly distributed updates to training parameters and requirements that synchronise in the opposite direction: from the central server to each of the ships.

The Results

We helped our client:

  • Schedule training for security agents while at sea and without an internet connection.
  • Centralised monitoring of all training data to gain a clear and up to date picture of fleet compliance.
  • Deliver training to security agents at any time and in any place, maximising employee efficiency.
  • Provide engaging, self-paced and interacting learning experiences for employees.

Enhancing Security Awareness to Non-Security Staff at an International Sporting Event

Background

A European company managing an international sporting event held in a large outdoor stadium hired hundreds of temporary workers as ushers and stewards for the event. The temporary staff needed to be trained on the basic principles of security awareness to ensure they were vigilant and attentive to potential threats on the venue.

It was also crucial that they knew when and how to report to the security personnel on-site and increased their own sense of security.

Business Critical Requirements

The solution needed to be:

  • Easy and fast to deploy, with a minimal marginal additional cost for the customer.
  • Pedagogically efficient, clear and suitable for non-professional target audience.
  • Engaging and interactive so as to encourage staff to use it.
  • Capable of providing the customer with a clear and up to date picture of the completion level.

The Eagle7 Solution

We distributed a training app offering security awareness training to all non-security staff at the company. The training focused on how to identify suspicious signs that might indicate a potential security threat to the event, related to either suspicious individuals, vehicles or objects such as unattended bags, as well as signs that are related to the venue’s facilities, such as a broken window or an out of order door lock.

The training used non-intimidating language and imagery and animations to introduced basic security awareness concepts in a simple, comprehensible way. It was also used to inform of security threats that were prevented due to employee’s awareness.

Rolled out a few weeks prior to the event, the employees were guided to download the app to their personal devices and go through the training in advance of their shifts. The app was also available on company tablets on-site, for those employees who have not had the chance or felt reluctant to install the app themselves.

The app covered reporting procedures and best practices and ended with a short self-assessment session. The completion status and the assessment results were emailed to the customer’s admin on a weekly basis to help track which employees had completed the training.

The Results

We helped our customer:

  • Increase the security level of the event without increasing the number of security staff or add infrastructures.
  • Equip all employees with basic security concepts and know-how.
  • Contribute to employees’ sense of security and own safety at the workplace.
  • Train hundreds of employees within a few weeks without delaying the operation.
  • Save on hardware, classroom space and trainers’ costs by using a mobile app to deliver the training.
